Welcome to the first Best of 3 edition of GeoGuessr: Brotherly Brawl — the series where my brother and I, both GeoGuessr newbies, clash in globe-trotting duels filled with blind guesses, accidental brilliance, and a little bit of geography-fuelled sibling tension.

This was our first official “Best of 3” match series, and let me tell you — it delivered. From desert desolation to .uy domain revelations, the matches had it all. Here's how it all played out.

📌 This post is part of the GeoGuessr: Brotherly Brawl series on Pin Point, a growing hub for new players looking to sharpen their geography skills.

🕹️ Game 1: A Rough Start and a Mongolian Miracle

Round 1 – Spain (but not quite)

I spawned in what looked like a classic Spanish-speaking country — but something was off. The architecture and palm trees screamed Latin America, yet I kept seeing clear Spanish signage. Then I noticed some English too and thought, “Puerto Rico?” Seemed reasonable. My brother? Italy.

Result: It was Spain. We both flopped, but he flopped slightly less.
Me: 67 pts | Brother: 1,290 pts

Game 1 Round 1 Spain

Round 2 – Philippines (Laguna)

"Laguna" kept appearing on storefronts and billboards. It rang zero bells for me. I figured it was somewhere near the equator in Southeast Asia and went with Indonesia. My brother, on the other hand, nailed the vibe — placing his pin right in the Philippines.

Result: A solid hit for him, and I was left wondering how I missed it.
Me: 906 pts | Brother: 2,928 pts

Game 1 Round 2 Philippines

Round 3 – Sri Lanka

I caught a glimpse of script that looked a bit like Lao and noticed the iconic concrete utility poles with gaps — but they didn’t match anything I'd seen before. My brain said “somewhere in Southeast Asia,” but not quite right. It was Sri Lanka. My brother? Bullseye.

Result: Starting to feel like I’m getting schooled.
Me: 1,552 pts | Brother: 7,602 pts

Game 1 Round 3 Sri Lanka

Round 4 – France

Finally, some solid ground — quite literally. A drop into picture-perfect rural France. I didn’t get any clear town names or regional hints, but the skies looked grey and northern, so I dropped a pin up near Caen. My brother also hovered nearby.

Result: My best round so far. The comeback begins?
Me: 6,063 pts | Brother: 11,712 pts

Game 1 Round 4 France

Final Round – Mongolia

Dropped into a harsh, dry expanse — nothing but dirt and distant hills. No signs, no movement, just vibes. And that’s when I remembered a Zi8gzag video where a similar wasteland turned out to be Mongolia. I took the shot and guessed central Mongolia.

My brother? He went full desert mode and guessed... Nevada.

Result: I absolutely crushed it.
Me: 8,379 pts | Brother: 11,718 pts

Game 1 Round 5 Mongolia

Game 1 Winner: My brother — early rounds buried me. Mongolia came too late.

🕹️ Game 2: Learning the Signs

Round 1 – Kenya

Dropped into a sunny, dusty town that screamed somewhere in Africa. I found signs for a church and instantly thought Ghana. Meanwhile, my brother leaned towards South Africa. I spotted a snorkel on the Google car (note to self: learn your Google car metas).

Result: It was Kenya. A solid start for my brother.
Me: 279 pts | Brother: 562 pts

Game 2 Round 1 Kenya

Round 2 – Hungary

Grey skies, dull buildings — my first instinct was Russia. But then, a lifeline: a sign reading “Tiszaadony.” Sounded vaguely Slovak, so I went for it. My brother… well, he took a gamble near Tunisia.

Result: Hungary! I got much closer. Momentum shift.
Me: 4,300 pts | Brother: 2,368 pts

Game 2 Round 2 Hungary

Round 3 – Malta

This one felt like a cheat code. EU plates, English language everywhere, driving on the left... and sunny Mediterranean vibes. I remembered a painful loss to Malta recently and instantly locked it in. My brother guessed Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Result: Redemption.
Me: 9,275 pts | Brother: 4,969 pts

Game 2 Round 3 Malta

Round 4 – Thailand

Instant Asia energy. Concrete walls, scooters, and colorful graffiti. The script looked Thai to me. I placed my guess in southern Thailand, while my brother honed in on Bangkok.

Result: Both decent guesses, but mine edged it.
Me: 12,146 pts | Brother: 9,266 pts

Game 2 Round 4 Thailand

Final Round – Uruguay

A sleepy suburb with little signage… until I found a .com.uy domain on a real estate sign. Bingo. Montevideo was the safest bet, and I went with it. My brother thought Argentina.

Result: A monster round to close it out.
Me: 17,122 pts | Brother: 12,135 pts

Game 2 Round 5 Uruguay

Game 2 Winner: Me — everything just clicked.

🕹️ Game 3: The Decider

Round 1 – Mexico

Chaos. Spanish signs everywhere, and I spot a Chilean-colored license plate — maybe Chile? But then I find a van with .mx — MEXICO! I panic and try to adjust my guess... and accidentally click far into the U.S. Brother went Puerto Rico.

Result: A frustrating misclick.
Me: 765 pts | Brother: 638 pts

Game 3 Round 1 Mexico

Round 2 – India

Indian or Bangladeshi script immediately. Found a sign for “Kalyani Nagar Branch” — sounded like it could be in India’s more English-speaking northeast. Guessed accordingly. It was near Mumbai. My brother was a bit further off.

Result: Closer than him, but still off.
Me: 3,143 pts | Brother: 2,861 pts

Game 3 Round 2 India

Round 3 – Croatia

Beautiful countryside. Motorbikes driving on the right. EU plates. A sign for “Plodine” caught my eye, which I thought might be Polish. Then came “Malinska.” I took a stab at Poland — turns out it was Croatia. My brother guessed Denmark.

Result: A strong round for both, but edge to me.
Me: 6,213 pts | Brother: 4,956 pts

Game 3 Round 3 Croatia

Round 4 – Ireland

Classic Irish countryside — green, lush, and sheep-adjacent. I spotted a sign for “Sligo County Council” but also saw a fine listed in £, which threw me. Northern Ireland? But then, an EU plate! Placed in the Republic, found Sligo, and clicked on a cow-adjacent farm.

Result: Nailed it. Brother guessed near Belfast.
Me: 11,133 pts | Brother: 9,434 pts

Game 3 Round 4 Ireland

Final Round – Bulgaria

A long, Eastern European road. Red hex stop signs, EU plates, and a Bulgarian flag made this one clear. Brother saw the Cyrillic but went with Moldova.

Result: My best round yet.
Me: 15,200 pts | Brother: 13,280 pts

Game 3 Round 5 Bulgaria

🏆 Game 3 Winner: Me — clutch reads and a lot of luck!

🧠 What We Learned

  • Google car metas like snorkels and Gen 2/4 cameras are game-changers
  • Domains and license plates are like cheat codes when spotted early
  • Don’t let a £ sign fool you when there’s an EU plate nearby 😅
  • Always triple-check your guess location before time runs out...
